Spring cleaning doesn’t just have to mean tidying up your home. It can be a time to get rid of things that no longer serve you. And that applies to more than clothes.
Purge your social media.
Go through each social media platform you use and look at each account you are following individually. Unfollow any accounts that regularly make you experience negative emotions when you see their posts. Only follow what brings positivity into your life.
Take a look a your career.
Time to do a gut check. Is this the right job for you? Is it helping you to get where you want to be? Is it time to move on? Have an honest conversation with yourself about where you are right now work-wise. Even if you’re happy now, maybe polish up your resume anyway just so it’s up to date. You never know what opportunities can come up at the most unexpected moments.
Think about your relationships.
Relationships are a two-way street. Do you feel you’re getting enough out of your relationships? Are you putting enough effort into building and maintaining them? If you feel like you are the only making effort to get together with a friend than maybe that relationship is not worth your time. Maybe there’s something in your romantic relationship you’ve been neglecting that you need to put some time and energy into fixing. It’s important to take time for self-reflection and honest conversations with a friend or partner to build the best, most fulfilling relationships possible.
Declutter your mind.
Try to give your brain a vacation. Make an effort to spend some time away from screens regularly, but if that’s not possible try to at least minimize the number of stimuli for your brain. Spend time in a quiet environment, turn off notifications on your devices so you don’t face constant interruptions, and try to only have one screen operating at a time.
Polish up your workspace.
Even when we make an effort to keep a clean desk, things can quickly pile up. Take some time to do a decluttering and purging of your workspace. It will make work feel less stressful.
Clean up your exercise regimen.
Or start one! Make an effort to schedule things around the class you’ve been wanting to try so that you can commit to coming each week. Make yourself a workout schedule and stick to it, you can even put it in your calendar and treat it like any other appointment.
Plan a vacation.
Sometimes all we need is to hit the reset button. Take time to plan a vacation, because if you plan ahead you’re more likely to actually take the vacation. Talk with your boss and coworkers to discuss coverage while you’re away, schedule your out-of-office message and mark it on your work calendar. We all need some time away now and then.
Look at your budget.
This is a great time to see if you’re following your budget and see if you need to make any adjustments. If you don’t have a budget, start now by looking at your last few months of spending to see what you need to budget for each category. This is also a good time to check in on any investment or savings accounts you have if you aren’t sure of the current balance.
Think about what you eat.
An easy way to start to eating a healthy diet is to try to eat clean. Try to only eat whole, unprocessed foods and stick to things with five ingredients or less are a rule of thumb. Make an effort to develop a connection with your body and notice how you feel after eating certain foods so you know what to eat more of and what to avoid.
Let go of any negativity.
Let go of any negative thoughts or feelings you have about yourself or others. Try to live with an open heart and not be judgemental of others, but show the same love to yourself. It’s so easy to fall into a trap of feeling inadequate and insecure by comparing ourselves to other people but I promise you that you are enough. You are exactly where you need to be right now.
Happy Spring!
