I’ve been getting back into reading again lately and it’s made me remember how much I miss it, so I thought I’d share some books I can’t wait to pick up this fall in case you need some suggestions.
Naturally Tan by Tan France
Queer Eye’s fashion expert, Tan France, recounts his life story, from growing up in a traitional South Asisan family in England all the way through finding his confience, coming to the US, and his experiences joinging Queer Eye. I’ve been wanting to read this since before it came out, but I haven’t had a chance yet.
How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
I saw this on Instagram the other day and knew I had to read it. It’s all about removing yourself from the loopholes that keep you distracted by being “productive” in a capitalist system that’s not necessarily supporting you.
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin
I’m not ready to let go of Game of Thrones, even though the series has ended, so I decided to re-read the books. I just finished re-reading Game of Thrones, so I will move on to Clash soon.
The Testaments by Margaret Atwood
I loved the Handmaid’s Tale so I am excited to read the sequel, especially since I’m too squeamish to watch the show. This story picks up 15 years after Handmaid’s Tale and is told from the perspective of three different women.
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
This magical realism novel follows the life of Hiram Walker, who was born into slavey, loses his mother at a young age, and grows up to join the Underground, a network to help liberate slaves.Ta-Nehisi Coates is an exceptional writer and I’m excited to read his fiction debut.
Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice For Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong
If you haven’t already, watch Ali’s stand up specials on Netflix and while you’re there watch Always Be My Maybe. Ali wrote this for her daughters while she was pregnant as a book of life advice. I can’t wait for what I’m sure will be a moving and hilarious read. Out October 15th.
The World That We Knew by Alice Hoffman
Set in Germany during WWII, Hanni Kohn is trying to protect her daughter Lea from the Nazis. When the daughter of a rabbi, Etti, creates a golem, Ava, sworn to protect Lea, the three of them (Lea, Etti, and Ava) become linked for eternity. The novel follows their journey and fight for survival through the war. I’ve recently been reading a lot of WWII fiction, and I enjoyed Alice Hoffman’s last book, The Rules of Magic so this seemed like a good pick for me. Out September 24th.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
I have a copy of Little Women my mother bought me when I was a child and I’ve never read it. I’ve meant to, I’ve started it but just never finished. I am excited to see the film adaptation this Christmas, so I’d like to read the novel before then. If you’re not familiar, the novel follows the four March sisters through their struggles in New England during the Civil War.
Are you excited for a particular book this fall? Let me know in the comments!
Have a great rest of your week!
