I think fall is a great time to reflect back on the year, to check on your progress with your goals or resolutions, and make some adjustments for the end of the year. A lot can change in a year, and with life changes your goals can change as well. Here are 5 of my fourth-quarter goals this year, and my journey to them:
1. Save as much money as possible.
I have a lot of large expenses coming up that I could not have predicted earlier in the year, otherwise I would have been saving more aggressively throughout 2019. Now I’m not going to deprive myself of taking part in fall or holiday festivities, but I am trying to cut costs wherever I can. I would rather not dip into my emergency fund if I don’t have to.
2. Find a new yoga class.
My yoga teacher moved out of state about a year ago, and I haven’t found a new teacher since then. There’s a few classes I will go to now and then, but I don’t really enjoy them. I need to commit to making a list of local studios and trying out at least one class at each until I can find a class I want to take weekly. I see so many benefits from doing yoga regularly, and I also just miss it.
3. Only purchase sustainable and ethical clothing.
This is likely a goal I will carry into 2020, but it’s a commitment I’ve made at the end of this year. I want to live my values, and I think that has to mean committing to not purchasing clothing that I can’t guarantee was sourced or produced ethically. It’s been hard to start, I’ve been able to purchase more casual loungewear pieces easily but everything else is much more expensive. My thoughts on this are that if I just purchase less items over a year, I should be able to afford one or two more expensive items.
4. Read when I have downtime instead of scrolling through my phone.
After not meeting my reading challenge the past few years, I decided to lower the challenge to fewer books for 2019 and I’m still not meeting my goal. And I love reading! I just find it hard to find time to do it. But I do know I’m guilty of wasting time on my phone, so I’m going to start there. Whenever I have the instinct to reach for my phone I will reach for a book instead.
5. Purge and declutter.
I just moved into a smaller space this summer, and while I feel that I did get rid of a lot of my things before the move, I could still downsize a bit more. My goal is to start with my closet. I feel like I never have anything to wear, despite the fact that I have a closet full of clothes, so clearly something’s not working. I think if I pair down to the pieces I really love it will make it much easier to get dressed in the morning. Having a closet that’s not overstuffed will be much less stressful.
How are your 2019 goals coming? Do you have new goals for the rest of the year? Let me know in the comments!
I hope everybody has a great week!
